About Della
Della has been cooking since she was tall enough to reach the stove top. What started with prepping meals for her parents and sisters in Pasadena, Texas turned into a lifelong love. Whether just fixing a meal for her and her husband or catering a non-profit event for more than 100 guests, she has the dish for the occasion. Growing up in a time when the Julia Child methods ruled, Della forged her own path. She was a working mother with four kids. Time and budgets don't necessarily afford one the luxury of Cordon Bleu cooking. Yet, Della's dishes were never short on taste. When her children were young, she scoured grocery store flyers and dragged her kids to multiple grocery stores on weekends to ensure she brought home the best they could afford. If there was a deal on lambchops at any store in driving distance, she found it.
She has traveled the world, picking up flavors from all-over and mixing them before "fusion" cooking was even a thing. In 2003, her signature pavlova recipe was added to the menu of Ackergill Tower in Wick, Scotland. In 2006, she was recognized by The Advocate Food Section in Baton Rouge, Louisiana for her signature mix of her Texan flair with New Zealand cuisine - a reflection of her 47-year marriage to a Kiwi, Glenn. However, her excellent skills have been long-renowned by anyone who has been fortunate enough to have a seat at her table.
Today she is retired and living happily in Baton Rouge, Louisiana with her husband and her Westie, Beignet. She receives frequent calls and emails from her family and friends requesting recipes. This website is our gift to her so she may be able to catalog those recipes here in one convenient spot. Now when her kids and grandkids call maybe they will instead be calling to talk instead of to pester her for her signature Hollandaise sauce recipe.
Here, for all to share, are her breakfast (brunch), lunch, and dinner dishes plus desserts and bonus tips (like how to just make some rice or soft-boil an egg). All things that taste good without breaking the budget or wasting your time. She always dreamed of opening her own restaurant, we are hoping this is the next best thing.
Happy (Grand)Mother's Day! We love you!
